Devil Ark will be Devil Heaven

FAME and the Australian Reptile Park plan to set up a safe haven for healthy Devils at Barrington Tops north of Sydney in NSW. A population of disease-free Devils will be established behind a secure fence, with enough space to roam and breed naturally until there are enough animals for the population to be sustainable.

Since the development of the Devil Ark concept in 2006, the managers of the Australian Reptile Park, in partnership with the Foundation for Australia’s Most Endangered Species (FAME) have been busy working with a range of partners and stakeholders to bring about the physical creation of one of the most ambitious breeding programs for an endangered predator species ever undertaken. The tax-exempt charitable organisation has taken on the challenge of finding and maintaining funding for the early development stages and maintenance of Devil Ark.

FAME President Michael Willson AM said that this project is an exact fit with FAME's objectives. "FAME exists to save native species from extinction, and Devil Ark strikes me as the most important conservation initiative in the country right now, which is why we are doing all that we can to help out. If it's in our power, we won't let the Tasmanian devil go the way of the Thylacine."
