‘Local Heroes’ Work to Save the Endangered
Mt Lofty Ranges Southern Emu-Wren

The campaign to save the nationally endangered Southern Emu-wren and its critically endangered habitat was launched on November 5th and will continue until June 2007. Visit www.emuwren.net for information.

Fleurieu Peninsula schools and businesses are taking up the challenge to become ‘Local Heroes’ and raise funds for the project.

Donation boxes, posters and information about the endangered Mt Lofty Ranges Southern Emu-wren and its critically endangered habitat, the swamps of the Fleurieu Peninsula, will be distributed via local schools and businesses. ‘Local Hero’ certificates will be awarded to schools and businesses that raise a target amount for the project.

Funds raised by the campaign will contribute to the restoration of the disappearing habitat of the nationally endangered bird.

The swamps of the Fleurieu Peninsula are unique. They are the key to the survival of this tiny wren, along with dozens if not hundreds of other birds, plants and animals. Less than 25% of original swamp habitat remains, and less than 500 Emu-wrens.

You can be a Local Hero too! Contact FAME (phone 0401 816 162, email fame@fame.org.au) or visit www.emuwren.net for information about the
campaign and how to obtain your Local Hero kit.
